100 Years of Energy Predictions

 
 

I don’t often publish single posts about articles on other sites but this one is great.

Martin Holladay (author of the Musings of An Energy Nerd blog) posted his review of a century’s worth of predictions on our energy future.

Naturally, some of the predictions are laughably, horribly off but there are others that were outright prescient. Sifting through the chaff, ahh, there’s the challenge. I always say, when in doubt, bet on the problem not solving itself.

My favorite prediction was Robert Heinlein’s prognostication (in 1950!) that:

“Your personal telephone will be small enough to carry in your handbag. Your house telephone will record messages, answer simple inquiries, and transmit vision.”

Heinlein always had a knack for forward looking thought.
